Detailed history based on the published works of British Archaeologist and Martial Artist Paul Richardson. Paul has spent the last fifteen years extensively researching the histories of these ryuha through authorities worldwide. The following information is based largely on his works, and is used with his express permission and approval.
Koryu Bugei
Our system is called Budo Taijutsu, and incorporates many kinds of koryu bugei (warrior traditions that originated before the 16th century). These ryuha are well-documented and linked historically to some of the most well-respected ryuha in Japan. In reality, the 'ninjutsu' system, Togakure Ryu, supplies very little of the 'bujutsu', or combative arts, that we practice. Yet, as you are about to discover, the distinction is not always so black and white.
Studying systems of both bushido and ninpo in one school offers a unique perspective. It allows us to compare, contrast and balance both philosophies.
